Top work, Florian 💪
What an atmosphere, with a great set of fans in the Weserstadion 🏟️
Here's a few photos to relive that epic game 📸
Dear Mainz 05 fans,
After what happened in Saturday’s away game against TSG Hoffenheim, the time has come to address you in an open letter. None of us are happy with the club’s current sporting situation. It affects you as fans as much as it does us players.
We know that it is up to us to deliver performances and passion, to give you something to cheer as we aim to reach our goal of playing in the Bundesliga again next season, and unfortunately that hasn’t always been the case of late.
We can understand your frustrations and take a self-critical view. We also listen to your critique, just like at the stadium in Frankfurt, and take it to heart – we will continue to do so in future too.
However, after going behind in the second half, and even after we pulled it back to 3-2, a phase where were trying our absolute damndest to battle for at least a point, we were met with ironic chanting from our own fan block that we felt was mocking us. It was of course very frustrating and disappointing, and it’s the reason why we didn’t come over to you after the game.
We understand that a number of you didn’t like that, but we wanted to make a clear statement that taunting us won’t help us reach our goal. We are utterly convinced that we can escape this difficult situation, but there is only one way that Mainz 05 can survive the relegation battle, and that’s by the club, the team and the fans all pulling together and sticking together. It won’t work any other way.
We want to make progress as a team and will give our all to succeed. We will put all we have into our mission of staying up – for you, for the club, for this city. But to do that, we will need every single fan on our side, every loud voice behind us and your unified support, particularly after setbacks.
That is what has made Mainz 05 so strong in the past – nothing has come between you and the club. We have made miracles happen together. We have won battles when everyone else had already written us off, just like last summer, when we pulled together to survive the drop.
We have twelve more games to help us end this season positively. We want to make a statement on the pitch and hope that we have your support!
Together we can do it.
Your team, your coaches, your staff, your club
