First Look at Facility | Football: It was an exciting day for Sun Devil Football yesterday as they got their first look at the new Student-Athlete Facility!
GO SUN DEVILS!!!
Everyone who comments about the locker room being a waste of money or whatever probably never played anything collegiately, or any sports at all for that matter. Remember at your HIGH SCHOOL next to the gym there was the locker room, usually made of rows and rows of metal perforated lockers on cement slabs with concrete benches, perpetually smelling like athlete's foot, or shower bleaching or a mix? It's pretty plain and multi use, like it's supposed to be.
But you take a high school football kid whose 18, 19 years old about to get to college and he sees what a REAL collegiate locker room looks like, that's shock and awe, the kids know the team and the games ASU plays, they look up the season records and stats and breakdowns but realistically they don't actually care about that because it's always a new season and they all believe in themselves that they can contribute to something to make it better than it was.
But, those kids while confident in their playing abilities on the field, really want a place they can call home for their years they'll play there, since half their day during the season will be in that facility, they want to feel comfortable and have the latest gadgets and coolest looks and such.
You arm chair quarterbacks think a locker room is a waste of money or whatever, but fans hate old stadiums with outdated and uncomfortable seats, concourses, small bathrooms, tiny concession stands, lack of premium seating and other ammenities. The stadium concrete was starting to deteriorate! It was time to rennovate. The locker room was a part of it. The capacity shrunk, sure, but it's a highly saturated sports market with a SDS being a former NFL stadium that attracted larger crowds, was not needed for ASU. After these renovations are complete, the stadium will be 100% ASU, no remnants of the Cardinals will be there (the North locker room for the ASU football visitors was the former Cardinals locker room, remember? And that facility was even worse than the now vacated South locker room. I'm assuming visiting teams will be placed in the old locker room on the South end now.
Assuming CTG is still around in the next 2-3 years, this team will see a very good turn around, I believe it, I saw it first hand working for the team in 2014-2015. We have the right A.D., the right H.C. and the right staff to get success. With the new facilities, the recruits will come.
A full day at the #ACCKickoff yesterday in Charlotte. Here's a roundup of the highlights from the event
All over from the #ACCKickoff but we have a look back at the event with press conference replays, quotes & more
