This is exactly why people should never spread rumors...
Post this and read this in every junior high and high school classroom. May stop some of the hurtful, bullying that is happening.
The original version of this story = a true event from the life of St Philip Neri, of Italy, a priest who lived in the 16th Century. A woman went to confession and admitted to being a gossip. For her penance, St Philip told her to take a pillow to the roof of the highest building in town, cut it open, empty the pillow -- and then return to St Philip with the empty pillow case. The woman thought he was crazy, but did as she was told. When St Philip saw her, he told her to go collect every down feather. Now, the woman was angry: "I can never collect them all -- it's impossible!!" St Philip explained that that was the whole point: in gossiping, we have no idea where those stories will go and we can never take them back.
Oh boy~~I'd like to slap this one on the walls of a few people I know!! Or in other words, as a wise man once told me, "You can't unring a bell"!!
Sometimes you just need to focus on you, and that's okay.
