I've been painting lots of saints & angels for the "good" side of my HUGE "Dress of Sinners, Dress of Saints" painting! This is just a small portion of the piece I've been working on for almost a year. The original acrylic painting will be debuting at my "Magical Thinking" solo show opening July 28th at the COREY HELFORD GALLERY in downtown Los Angeles. Still in the underpainting/sketching/shading stage - at this point I've got most of the background underpainting (monochromatic) done, and all the tiny figures (and the large ones) sketched out in paint and highlighted, working on shading them now. It is supposed to be evocative of medieval/Renaissance era altarpiece paintings, so I'm doing a full underpainting before addressing colour in an "Old Masters" kind of technique.
On your left will be the "Sinners" (referencing medieval/Renaissance depictions of hellish scenes, demons, monsters, etc.) and on your right will be the "Saints" (referencing medieval/Renaissance depictions of angels, saints, glorious religious pageantry, etc.). The background is intentionally evoking those marvelous Patinir rocky cliffs you see over & over again in Flemish landscapes of that period.
If you are interested in being contacted about the original painting (I do not yet know the price point on this original, it'll be on the higher end as it's the largest and most complex painting I have ever worked on) - email firstname.lastname@example.org - let her know you are interested in "Dress of Sinners, Dress of Saints" or any other JBG originals coming up in the Jasmine Becket-Grifith Solo Show "Magical Thinking." We'll have full-sized Masterpiece Editions of this as well as regular paper prints, etc. at my Strangeling website after the release.
